DISCIPLES OF JESUS MINISTRY

Where He leads us we will follow

Cancer diagnosed

I am going to share with you some of our recent experience in the Christian life in the hope that it may help some of you. As Christians we are not totally immune to troubles in this world, but we never have to go through anything alone.   At the beginning of last year 2010 God led me to Isaiah43:1-2 But now, this is what the LORD says- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

I had no perception at that moment in time just what was to ahead of us as a family in the months to come. We have passed through many storms, not least of those my husband being rushed to hospital in June with renal colic and having an MRI (Medical resonance imaging) a few days later. This showed not only a fairly large stone in one kidney but a cancerous mass in his left kidney.  The urologist could not retrieve the stone from his right kidney on first attempt so he placed a stent in his urethra and called him back three weeks later. The stone plus the stent were successfully removed in July. His right kidney had to recover from this procedure before they could remove his left kidney so it was on the 20 th of August that they successfully removed the diseased kidney. Raymond is now at home recovering from this surgery.

We believe fully in the miraculous healing power of our Lord and Saviour today.  Both of us have received healing before immediate and complete. We did not doubt that God wanted to heal Raymond, in fact two weeks prior to the operation Raymond requested another x-ray because he believed that his God heals and did not want a healed kidney removed.

The x-ray still showed a tumour was still present so he agreed to proceed with the surgery, knowing that God would guide the surgeon’s hands to successfully remove the kidney and any other diseased tissue so a radical laparoscopic nephrectomy was successfully carried out.

The cancer had been miraculously highlighted by God himself before it had a chance to spread. God has miraculously been healing Raymond but he chose the method of healing. He wanted us to walk through this journey with Him, gaining strength from Him alone and He has been showering us both with His love, His sweet presence as He has held us so very close to Him. If Raymond had not been in hospital at that time he would not have been there to testify to the other patient’s in the ward of the goodness of God. He also counted it a privilege to pray for the needs of others round about him, even when he was weak himself suffering from a post- operative infection in his wound. God told him he was healing him and His word is truth for indeed that is what He has been doing. The Christian life is a journey, it is a constant learning experience.  Jesus said “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Mat 11:29.

The following poem is a personal testimony written a few days prior to my husband’s nephrectomy.

Trusting in the Lord our God

There is a word that has gripped me with fear,

A word which I always dreaded to hear,

The doctor said “Your husband has cancer in his kidney,”

That dreaded moment that could have filled me with dismay.

But my trust is in the Lord my God,

He is not the author of sickness or disease,

And I know the day of miracles has not ceased,

Highlighting the cancer found on routine MRI was all of God.

God does not fail to deliver his promises,

He is not a man that withholds His goodness,

Our God cannot act contrary to His nature,

And He has amazing plans for my husband’s future.

This is not an easy time a date for surgery has been given,

We are still placing our trust in the God of heaven,

Believing still my husband from cancer will be free,

For God says “I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

So at this time leading up to surgery next week,

We place our trust in Him and his face we will seek,

We are blessed with wonderful doctors today of that there is no doubt,

But the greatest physician of all is still healing today, His name is Jesus.

God guides the hands of surgeons and this he will do,

And God will send his angels to protect my husband too,

Wouldn’t it be amazing if they commence with surgery and find no tumour there?

Because God has miraculously intervened making the surgeons God aware.

In this time and in this hour we take all our thoughts captive,

Knowing God has promised Raymond a long life to live,

We believe great things of the Lord our God, we place our trust in Him,

Where else can we run in hour of need if not to Him?

We will fix our eyes on our precious Lord and Saviour,

His arms surround us supporting us with His love and care,

He is the one who holds all our tomorrows and there are many more,

We are so thankful to Him for his mercy and favour.

God has told us to speak to mountains,

And to this cancer we have spoken,

We have told it to go with Kingdom authority,

For there is power in the name of Jesus.

For by His stripes we are healed,

We place our trust in the Lord our God,

No eye has seen, No ear has heard,

What the Lord has proposed for those who love Him.

We trust in Him, we place our trust in Him.

Our God is good all the time, give praise to His Name,

Praising him now and always, for he deserves all our praise,

His word is yae and amen, He keeps His promises.

In God we place our trust................
